Nil Desperandum

The craft of papercutting has been around for a long time and continues to be recognised as a significant representation of folk art where it has not evolved into a form of tourist art. Anna Howarth began working with papercut after successfully utilizing the formats of "digital animation" - video art, Anna's work was the first of such to be included in the Welsh Eistedfodd Contemporary Art Exhibition 2001.

The relationship between Anna's video art and papercut works embrace an interest in her sorroundings in Wales and Cornwall, her interest in mythological narrative - particularly folk tales, ceremony and seasonal ritual, factors somewhat enhanced by a training and experience in theatre and performance before experience in scenic painting, making props and designing settings.

Papercut works and painting are currently prominent elements in Anna's practice in Relubbus , Cornwall and recently in London.

Anna Howarth is currently included in an exhibition in St.Ives Cornwall entitled Nil Desparandum after John Knill who was an avid collector and investor in folklore and native Kernewek culture.
